Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Oleta Adams

Artist:Oleta Adams

Song:Get Here

Album:The Very Best Of Oleta Adams

Oleta Adams is a fabulous gospel trained singer/songwriter/pianist in the tradition of Aretha Franklin. She was born May 4, 1962 in Seattle and grew up singing in her father's church in Yakima, WA. The story goes that she was performing in a Kansas City hotel bar when British pop group Tears For Fears' Roland Orzabal walked in and discovered her. She was asked to appear on a TFF album and her appearance in the video for Women In Chains got her a contract with TFF label Fontana Records. Orzabal & TFF producer Dave Bascombe produced Oleta's 1989 debut CD Circle Of One. Oleta had heard the Brenda Russell song Get Here on Brenda's CD and took the song to a whole new level. It was a top 5 pop hit. Oleta continued to record for Fontana but was unable to duplicate the success of Get Here. This comp features the Fontana recordings. Her 1997 gospel CD Come Walk With Me is also recommended. Her latest CD is 2006's Christmas Time With Oleta. I've been a big Oleta Adams fan for many years so if you've never heard her rich, deep soulful voice, here's the video for Get Here by Oleta Adams.
