AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Toadies

 Artist:Toadies

Song:Possum Kingdom

Album:The Box Set Series: '90s Alt Rock

Toadies had very brief success in the mid 90s post grunge boom. The 1995 single Possum Kingdom was their only chart hit. Maybe you saw the music video. Toadies recorded one album for Interscope. They reformed in 2008 and are still around. Toadies are from Fort Worth, TX led by lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Vaden Todd Lewis. He formed Toadies in 1989 with record store co-workers. His main collaborator early on was bassist Lisa Umbarger. Charles Mooney III was the lead guitarist. They went through four drummers before Mark Reznicek joined in 1991. The Pixies were a big influence on Lewis and Umbarger. The 1993 EP Pleather got them a deal with Interscope. They recorded the 1994 album Rubberneck with Beck producers Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf. Possum Kingdom reached #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video got a lot of airplay. Toadies recorded their second album Feeler in 1997. But Interscope didn't like it and ultimately refused to release it. They reworked it and a version was released in 2001. Lisa left Toadies when she realized that Interscope wasn't going to promote them. Lewis said he couldn't continue Toadies without Lisa so he disbanded them. Lewis joined Burden Brothers. It looks like Lisa quit the music business. Lewis reformed Toadies in 2008. They currently record for Kirtland Records and their latest album was released in 2017. Possum Kingdom is on this 4CD various artists box set from Sony. Here's the video for Possum Kingdom by Toadies.
