Singer Faheem "T-Pain" Najm is best known for popularizing the use of Auto-Tune in his music. The 2007 single Buy U A Drank is his only number one hit to date. Though his solo career has slowed down, he continues to make plenty of guest shots. He was born Sept. 30, 1985 in Tallahassee, Fl. His nickname is short for Tallahassee Pain as he had a difficult childhood. As a child, he was mentored by gospel jazz pianist Ben Tankard who showed him the ropes in the recording studio. Najm was ten years old when he turned his bedroom into a recording studio. He joined the rap group Nappy Headz in 2004. The rapper Akon heard him and signed him to his label Konvict Musik distributed by Jive. With his 2005 album Rappa Ternt Sanga, Najm became more of a singer by using Auto-Tune which makes poor singing voices sound decent. The singles I'm Sprung and I'm 'n Luv (With A Stripper) were top ten pop hits. Buy U A Drank is from the 2007 album Epiphany. The single featuring rapper Yung Joc topped the Billboard Hot 100. I think a lot of fans heard him on the chart topper Low by Flo Rida. For a while Najm seemed to appear on every single on the Billboard Hot 100. The 2008 single Can't Believe It from the album Three Ringz was Najm's final top ten pop hit. He has faded considerably since then. You can get all of Najm's hits on this budget comp. After Jive was bought by Sony, it was absorbed by RCA. My guess is they weren't spending promotion money on Najm. So he left RCA for Cinematic Music Group in 2017. His latest album 1UP was released in 2019. Najm won season one of the Fox show The Masked Singer. He released a single earlier this year so he may be working on a new album.
