Song:My Friends Over You
Album:Sticks and Stones
New Found Glory are a pop punk band similar to but not as successful as Blink-182. The 2002 single My Friends Over You is probably their best known song. New Found Glory are from Coral Springs, FL. Lead singer Jordan Pundik and bassist Ian Grushka were in the band Flip 60 in 1997. When that band split up, they formed a new band with guitarist Steve Klein. Pundik knew him from another band and they worked together at Red Lobster. The other members were Chad Gilbert on lead guitar and Cyrus Bolooki on drums. Pundik says he wrote the name New Found Glory on a napkin while working at Red Lobster. They released an EP and toured the east coast. Then they released the 1999 album Nothing Gold Can Stay and Drive-Thru Records picked it up for distribution through MCA Records. Signing with a major label meant that New Found Glory was competing with Blink-182 and other similar bands. There were plenty of them at that time. New Found Glory's problem was they couldn't seem to get that big hit single. The 2000 CD New Found Glory was certified Gold and so was the 2002 CD Sticks and Stones. My Friends Over You charted but it didn't chart high enough to help the band. They were on the Warped Tour with Blink-182 and they also opened for Green Day. They tried a hard rock sound with the 2004 album Catalyst but sales leveled off and they left MCA after the 2006 album Coming Home. They signed with Bad Religion owned Epitaph Records. Their 2009 CD Not Without A Fight was produced by Blink-182's Mark Hoppus. They now record for Hopeless Records and their latest CD Makes Me Sick was released in 2017. After being charged in 2013 with inappropriate behavior with a minor, Steve Klein was fired. New Found Glory is currently on tour. They are a successful band but they could have been more successful if they could have distinguished themselves from similar bands. That was always going to be a tall order. Here's the video for My Friends Over You by New Found Glory.
