Artist:Robbie Fulks f/Kelly Willis
Song:Parallel Bars
Album:The Very Best Of Robbie Fulks
Robbie Fulks is one of the leading lights of the Alt Country movement known for his sense of humour. Parallel Bars is a pretty funny song about relationships and The Very Best Of Robbie Fulks is not really a comp. He was born Mar. 25, 1963 in York, PA and went to Columbia University. Fulks moved to Chicago in 1983 and became the lead singer and guitarist for the bluegrass group Special Consensus. He was on their 1989 Grammy nominated album A Hole In My Heart. He was also in the musical revue Woody Guthrie American Song and led the rock band The Trailer Trash Revue. He recorded for Bloodshot Records and this led to a shot with Geffen Records. His 1998 debut album Let's Kill Saturday Night was killed by the Universal/PolyGram merger. He was dropped in the aftermath. He started his own label Boondoggle Records with distribution from Bloodshot. The Very Best Of Robbie Fulks was his first CD on his own label in 1999. It was a collection of odds and ends highlighted by Parallel Bars, a duet with Kelly Willis. Fulks signed with Yep Roc in 2005 and his 2010 CD Happy is a tribute to Michael Jackson. And he continues to tour folk festivals. If you're a fan of Alt Country, you should check out Robbie Fulks. Here's Robbie Fulks with Nora O'Connor performing Parallel Bars Madison, WI 2009.
