AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Primitives

Artist:The Primitives
Song:Crash
Album:Dumb and Dumber:Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

The Primitives had the potential to be much more successful than they were. Crash was their only big hit in England and they never broke through in the US. And that is what led up to the group split. This remix of their big hit Crash got some attention when it appeared in the 1995 film Dumb and Dumber. The Primitives were formed in Coventry, England in 1995 by guitarist PJ Court, bassist Steve Dullaghan and drummer Pete Tweedie. They had female lead singer Kieron McDermott but she was soon replaced by blonde bombshell Tracy Tracy (real name-Tracy Cattell) and Tweedie was replaced by Tig Williams. After releasing a couple of singles themselves, The Primitives signed with RCA Records. Because of Tracy's looks, comparisons to Blondie dogged The Primitives. I'm sure that annoyed them. Crash reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart in 1988. The song got some airplay in the US but it wasn't enough for them to chart. The Primitives faded and split up in 1991 after two more albums. But then a remix of Crash appeared in the very popular 1995 film Dumb and Dumber. And I guess some fans discovered the song at that time. The soundtrack for Dumb and Dumber is available as a budget CD. Steve Dullaghan died in 2009. But the rest of The Primitives reformed in 2009 and toured England in 2010. They are supposed to be recording but I don't think anything has been released. Here's the video for Crash by The Primitives.
