In the 80s, Kenny Loggins had so many hits from films, he became known as King Of The Soundtracks. Footloose was his only number one hit in 1984. In fact, all but one of his top ten hits are from films. He was born Jan. 7, 1948 in Everett, WA. His dad was a salesman so the family moved to Detroit, Seattle and then Alhambra, CA. Loggins' band Second Helping recorded three singles for Viva Records in the late 60s. He was also part of The New Electric Prunes and Gator Creek who recorded for Mercury. But his big break came when The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded four of his songs including House On Pooh Corner. Loggins signed with ABC-Dunhill but when he started working with former Buffalo Springfield member and Columbia house producer Jim Messina, a deal was worked out and Loggins went to Columbia. The original plan was for Messina to only produce Loggins but they decided to form Loggins & Messina and were very successful. When they split up in 1976, Loggins went solo and had success with the top 20 hit This Is It in 1979. But Loggins really came into his own writing and recording songs for films. His first hit was I'm Alright from the 1980 film Caddyshack which reached #7. This was followed by Footloose which topped the charts in 1984. Loggins wrote it with film composer Dean Pilchford. Of course the film was a big hit too. He also had top ten hits with Danger Zone from the 1986 film Top Gun and Nobody's Fool from the 1988 film Caddyshack II. Loggins continued to record in the 90s but didn't have the same success. You can get all his hits on this budget comp. Kenny Loggins left Columbia in 2000 and hasn't recorded much in recent years.
