Artist:Brick
Song:Dazz
Album:Best Of Brick
Because they came from a jazz background, Brick liked to call their music "Dazz" or "Disco Jazz". The song Dazz was their biggest hit in 1976. Brick was from Atlanta and formed in 1972. Jimmy Brown played sax and flute, Regi Hargis played guitar, Eddie Irons played drums, Donald Nevins played keyboards and Ray Ransom played bass. They all sang. They recorded a single independently and this earned them a contract with Bang Records. Fans may recall Bang for Van Morrison and Neil Diamond records in the 60s. After Bang owner Bert Berns died in 1967, his wife Ilene Berns moved to Atlanta and continued the label with distribution from Epic Records. She sold Bang to Epic in 1978. Dazz was Brick's first single on Bang and it topped the R & B Singles chart and reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. There's not much to the song except the funky beat. And Jimmy Brown pulls off some good sax runs. They had another top 20 hit with Dusic in 1977 and had some other R & B hits until Epic closed Bang in 1982. You can get all their hits on this budget comp. Brick continued to record and perform into the 90s but it doesn't look like they're around today. Funk fans should enjoy Brick's music. Here's Brick performing Dazz on The Midnight Special 1976.
