4 Etoiles or Les Quatre Etoiles is an African band who were successful in the 80s and 90s. They are all Congolese and their music is Soukous dance music which was popular at the time. They lived in Paris. They are sometimes described as a supergroup as all four have had careers apart from 4 Etoiles. The members are Wuta Mayi and Nyboma on vocals, Syran Mbenza on lead guitar and Bopol Mansiamina on bass. All four moved to Paris in the 80s and had previously been in popular bands at home in the Congo. 4 Etoiles recorded their debut album in 1982. While the band was active, each member recorded solo and played on sessions. The 1993 single Doly is one of their most popular songs as it has a music video. They usually recorded for the French label Syllart which was owned by Ibrahima Sylla. He was from the Congo and lived in Paris. He produced the 1993 album Sangonini. M'Benza wrote Doly but all four guys wrote songs. After 4 Etoiles disbanded in 1996, M'Benza, Mayi and Nyboma joined the band Kekele in 2000. 4 Etoiles reunited for a concert in 2010. Massiamina moved to the US and died in 2021. Here's the video for Doly by 4 Etoiles.
