Most music fans should be familiar with Maurice Starr as the man who created and produced New Edition and New Kids on the Block in the 80s. He attempted to create a third group with Perfect Gentlemen in the late 80s. Though they did score a top ten hit with the 1990 single Ooh La La, They only recorded two albums. Starr formed Perfect Gentlemen as a vehicle for his son Maurice Starr Jr. The other two members were Corey Blakely and Tyrone Sutton. They toured with New Kids on the Block and released the 1990 album Rated PG on Columbia. The single Ooh La La reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Starr wrote and produced the album and played all the instruments. This album is available as a budget CD. Despite the success, Starr wasn't satisfied. For the 1993 album PG, he switched to Warner Bros. Maybe he wasn't happy with the promotion budget. And for the 1993 album Perfect Gentlemen, Tyrone Sutton was replaced by new lead singer Miles "Masspake Miles" Wheeler and Stephen Reeves. Starr again wrote and produced though he did bring in outside producers for a couple of tracks. The album didn't do as well as the first one so Starr decided to pull the plug. Maurice Starr Jr. went on to make music with his brother Stephen Starr as The Muzik Makerz. They don't appear to be active. Miles Wheeler also continued in music. Maurice Starr has had little success since the 80s. I guess he couldn't change with the times. Here's the video for Ooh La La (I Can't Get Over You) by Perfect Gentlemen.
