AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Jack Wagner

Artist:Jack Wagner

Song:All I Need

Album:Chart Toppers: Romantic Hits of the 80s

Actor Jack Wagner is best known for his runs on several TV soap operas. But while he was on the daytime soap General Hospital in the 80s, he scored a top five hit with the 1984 single All I Need. This was his only big hit though some of his other songs charted so he is not technically a one hit wonder. He was born Oct. 3, 1959 in Washington, MO. which is a St. Louis suburb. His dad was a car salesman. He played sports as a teen. Wagner got a full scholarship in drama at the University of Arizona. Wagner auditioned five times before he got the role of Frisco Jones on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. During the final audition, they discovered that Wagner could sing and play guitar. They sent him to Quincy Jones who signed Wagner to his Qwest label with Warner Bros. distribution. The 1984 album All I Need was produced by Glen Ballard and Clif Magness. The single All I Need reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ballard and Magness wrote the song with David Pack of Ambrosia. Though Wagner played the guitar solo in the video, Magness played the guitar solo on the record. Though All I Need turned out to be a footnote in Wagner's acting career, it was the first big hit for Ballard and Magness. Ballard went on to produce Wilson Phillips and Alanis Morissette. Magness went on to produce Avril Lavigne. You can get All I Need on this Sony various artists CD. Wagner recorded three albums for Qwest. But he wasn't able to score another hit. He last recorded in 2014. Most of Wagner's success as an actor has been on daytime soaps like General Hospital, Santa Barbara and The Bold and the Beautiful plus the primetime show Melrose Place. These days he's doing a lot of Hallmark movies as an actor and executive producer. He appeared in all The Wedding March films. Here's Jack Wagner performing All I Need on a 1984 episode of Solid Gold.
