Artist:Run River North
Song:Run or Hide
Album:Drinking from a Salt Pond
The indie band Run River North has had modest success as an album and touring band. They have been on hiatus since 2021 so the band may have ended. They were called Monsters Calling Home when they formed in 2011 in Los Angeles. All band members are Korean American. They are Alex Hwang on lead vocals and guitar, Daniel Chae on guitar, Jennifer Rim on violin, Sally Kang on keyboards, Joe Chun on bass and John Chong on drums. Monsters Calling Home self released an album in 2011 and they played gigs in the Los Angeles area. To avoid comparisons with the popular band Of Monsters and Men, they decided to change the band name to Run River North. Then they signed with the Canadian label Nettwerk Music Group. Run or Hide is from the 2016 album Drinking from a Salt Pond. This was their second album for Nettwerk. They performed the song on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Apr. 26, 2016. The band writes and produces everything. The producer was recording engineer Lars Stalfors. They toured to support the album including appearances in Korea and Japan. Then the band started to fall apart. Chong was replaced by Abe Kim. Then after a 2017 tour, Kim left and so did Jennifer Rim and Joe Chung. So they are now a three piece and they hire musicians for touring. Nettwerk sees that they are falling apart and releases them. The band continues to self release music to streaming services. They have been on hiatus since 2021 and last posted on Facebook in 2022. So why were they unsuccessful? I just don't think they were distinctive enough and when band members started leaving, that's when the band should have ended. Here's the video for Run or Hide by Run River North.
