AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Bram Tchaikovsky

Artist:Bram Tchaikovsky

Song:Girl of My Dreams

Album:Strange Men, Changed Men: The Complete Recordings 1978-1981

After he left The Motors in 1977, singer songwriter Peter Bramall had brief success as leader of the band Bram Tchaikovsky. They scored a top 40 hit with the 1979 single Girl of My Dreams. But they only recorded three albums. And the two guys who were in the band on the first album had left and Bramall turned it into a solo project. Bramall was born Nov. 10, 1950 in Lincolnshire, England. While he was a member of The Motors, he released a few singles and decided he would be better served by becoming a solo artist. So he gave himself the stage name Bram Tchaikovsky and turned it into a band as he needed musicians for touring. The rest of the band was Micky Broadbent on bass and Keith Boyce on drums. He signed with Radar Records which was also the home for Nick Lowe. The 1979 album Strange Man, Changed Man was released by Polydor in the US. The big surprise was when the single Girl of My Dreams reached #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 and then Bram Tchaikovsky appeared on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Bramall was lead singer and wrote most of the songs. But Girl of My Dreams was written by Ronnie Thomas who was in the band Heavy Metal Kids with Boyce. Bramall produced the album with Nick Garvey of The Motors. After Broadbent and Boyce left, Bram Tchaikovsky was basically a Peter Bramall solo act. For the 1980 album The Russians Are Coming, he played all the instruments and brought in Nick Line to play drums. He moved to Arista Records for the 1981 album Funland and brought in musicians to the studio. And that was it. Bramall has owned a recording studio for years. And he owns the Bram Tchaikovsky recordings which is why you can only get Girl of My Dreams on this 3CD box set of all three albums plus extras. It was released on the British label Cherry Red. The song was never licensed to many various artists albums. And the ones it appears on are out of print. Here's Bram Tchaikovsky performing Girl of My Dreams on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert 1979.
