Here's the match video of Loma Lookboonmee vs Aleksandra Albu from today's UFC show in Singapore. Loma is the very first fighter from Thailand in the UFC. She's 23 years old and she's been fighting Muay Thai since she was eight years old. She fought in Invicta and her Muay Thai is great but she is inexperienced in everything else. Aleksandra is a Russian who is more model than fighter. Her Instagram is very popular. What she needed to do in this fight is take Loma out of her comfort zone. But she didn't do that and that's why she lost the fight. What Aleksandra kept trying to do was grab Loma's shirt in round one. The ref warned her but she kept doing it. Taking a point away would have stopped that. Loma took off the shirt between rounds. Considering that, I thought Loma did pretty good. She controlled the fight with her Muay Thai and Aleksandra didn't do anything to counter that. So I scored it 30-27 for Loma. The judges gave Loma a split decision win. I could see Loma having problems with better fighters. We know what she is good at. But we don't know if she has improved in other areas. And she's an Atomweight trying to fight at Strawweight.
