Big Bad Blog Video Theater-Liz Carmouche vs Jennifer Maia

Here's the match video of Liz Carmouche vs Jennifer Maia from last night's UFC show in Boise, ID. Liz is a former Bantamweight title contender who has dropped to Flyweight. She has a significant size advantage at 125. But she didn't look good losing to Alexis Davis in her Flyweight debut. Also, she is 34 years old and she has slowed down due to injuries. I have never thought that she is an elite fighter anyway. Jennifer is making her UFC debut. She is a former Invicta Flyweight champ. I think she is an overrated points fighter. Though she trains at the famed Chute Boxe in Brazil, she was a boxer before that and that's all she does. I thought if Liz took the fight to the ground, she would win. It wasn't a great fight but Liz did what she had to do to win. And as with the Cat Zingano fight, I understand why Liz was conservative. She didn't want to make a mistake. But Jennifer is useless on the ground. So I don't know what the concern was. Jennifer's entire offense for three rounds was clinching on the fence. After round two, Jennifer's corner told her she was losing. So you would think she would go for broke. Nope. Jennifer is not the kind of fighter who can go down two rounds and mount a comeback. Points fighters can't do that. I scored the fight 30-27 for Liz. She needed the win and now she needs to beat someone better. Enjoy the video!

  1. I saw this fight on FightPass and you are right about the way both fought. Liz Carmouche could have gone for finish but she played it safe and got the win. I did not like the way Jennifer kept clinching on the fence at all. Your comment about all three of the women's fights on that show is really correct, they weren't that good. To bad for the women and the UFC. On to Invicta Frank.
