AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Bazuka

Artist:Bazuka
Song:Dynomite Part 1
Album:Non-Stop Funk 3

Here's a great instrumental funk song that was a top ten hit in 1975. It played off of Jimmie Walker's Dynomite catchphrase on the popular sitcom Good Times. Bazuka was a studio band put together by producer Tony Camillo. In the early 70s, Camillo worked for the Holland Dozier Holland owned labels Invictus and Hot Wax. He wrote and produced for Chairmen of the Board, Honey Cone and Freda Payne among others. Then he moved to Buddah Records and produced the Gladys Knight & The Pips number one classic Midnight Train To Georgia. That made him an in demand producer and he worked with Millie Jackson, Cecil Holmes and Grand Funk. Working with Cecil Holmes gave Camillo the idea of forming is own instrumental group. He signed with A&M Records and released the album Bazuka in 1975. Dynomite reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. As I said, Good Times was very popular at the time. The musicians are all studio veterans including Alan Rubin and Randy Brecker on trumpet, Michael Brecker and Lew Del Gatto on sax, Barry Rogers and Dave Taylor on trombone, Jeff Mironov and Elliott Randall on guitar, Barry Miles, Jeff Friedman and Pat Rebillot on keyboards, Bob Babbitt on bass, Alan Schwartzberg and Steve Gadd on drums and Carlos Martinez and Ruben Bassini on percussion. The vocals are by Jerry Knight and Kenney Kerr. Bazuka only recorded one album but Dynomite is considered to be a funk classic and it is frequently sampled by hip hop guys. You can get Dynomite on this various artists budget comp. Camillo recorded Bazuka at his own studio in New Jersey. Later he would get into film composing and he still does that today. Hey, it's better to be a one hit wonder than no hits. Here's a video for Dynomite by Bazuka.
