Joanne Calderwood vs Cynthia Calvillo added to July 16 UFC show

This morning the UFC Europe Twitter account announced that Joanne Calderwood vs Cynthia Calvillo has been added UFC Fight Night 113 July 16 at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. This show will air on Fox Sports 1 in the US and TSN in Canada. I expect this fight to air on the main card. Of course Joanne is a native of Glasgow so her fans have been going nuts on Twitter trying to get her on this show. I don't participate in that kind of nonsense because it's pointless and a waste of time and matchmaking isn't as easy as some fans think. I think this is reasonable matchmaking and a tough match for Joanne. For the last couple of years Joanne has trained at Tristar in Montreal. She's basically a kickboxer with zero ground game. So you might say isn't the champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk a kickboxer with no ground game. The difference is Joanna has great takedown defense. That is the number one thing that Joanne lacks. And we saw this in her last fight where Jessica Andrade took Joanne down and submitted her with a guillotine choke. Joanne needs better takedown defense to use her striking skills. She's probably going to need it in this fight because Cynthia has used a rear naked choke to submit her two UFC opponents. This will be Cynthia's first UFC fight against a ranked opponent. And she's going into hostile territory as the fans in Glasgow will go nuts for Joanne. Some fighters get rattled by a hostile crowd. Cynthia trains at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento. So she has plenty of teammates including her coach Justin Buchholtz who can relate to that. If Cynthia wins, her rapid ascent to the top of the Strawweight ladder will continue. Joanne's weaknesses are the same as when I first saw her in Invicta a few years ago. I'd like to see some progress in those areas.
