AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Earl Thomas Conley

Artist:Earl Thomas Conley f/Emmylou Harris
Song:We Believe In Happy Endings
Album:16 Biggest Hits

This one off duet topped the country charts in 1988. It is the only time Earl Thomas Conley and Emmylou Harris recorded together. At the time, Conley was very popular. He had a long string of number one country hits. One of those hits was the 1986 duet Too Many Times with Anita Pointer of The Pointer Sisters. Both artists were on RCA. So when it came time for Conley to record the 1988 album The Heart Of It All, producers Emory Gordy Jr. and Randy Scruggs wanted Conley to record another duet. At the time, Emmylou was at her most popular mainly because of the success of the 1987 album Trio with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. She was on Warner Bros. but they probably thought that recording with Conley would get Emmylou to the top of the charts. And it did but the only thing was this was at the end of Conley's successful run. He faded soon after this. We Believe In Happy Endings was written by veteran songwriter Bob McDill and it was a top ten country hit for Johnny Rodriguez in 1978. It's one of McDill's 31 number one hits. You can get it on this Conley budget comp. The song isn't on The Essential Earl Thomas Conley. Emmylou Harris fans can get it on her Duets comp. It's a little more expensive. It's the only time these two recorded together so I think it will interest fans of both. Here's a video of We Believe In Happy Endings by Earl Thomas Conley featuring Emmylou Harris.
