AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Kneebody

Artist:Kneebody
Song:Lowell
Album:The Line

The jazz group Kneebody have been around for over 15 years. They record and tour when the members aren't busy playing on other folks records. Lowell is from their 2013 album The Line which was their major label debut on Concord. They have a new album out on a different label. Most of Kneebody were students at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. After graduation they all moved to Los Angeles and formed Kneebody. The members are Adam Benjamin on keyboards, Shane Endsley on trumpet, Ben Wendel on tenor sax, Kaveh Rastegar on bass and Nate Wood on drums. Benjamin was a member of Dave Douglas and Keystone. Douglas agreed to let Kneebody record for his Greenleaf label. All five guys are active sidemen and session musicians. Benjamin has recorded three solo albums and recorded with Dave Douglas. Endsley has recorded two albums and recorded with Steve Coleman and Ani DiFranco. Wendel has recorded three albums and recorded with Daedelus and Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra. Rastegar does a lot of session work with Colin Hay, Beck and John Legend. Wood has recorded three albums and he has recorded with Tigran Hamasyan and Donny McCaslin. Benjamin wrote Lowell from the 2013 album The Line on Concord. This was Kneebody's first album on a label with decent distribution. They just released a new album Anti-Hero on Motema Music but I don't think Kneebody is on tour at the moment. Jazz fans should check them out. Here's Kneebody performing Lowell at the Blue Whale in Los Angeles in 2013.
