Gabrielle Holloway |
On Monday, Brazilian fighter Talita Nogueira posted on her Facebook that she blew out her knee and was forced to pull out of her Bellator 133 fight against Julia Budd. Bellator 133 will be Feb. 13 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA. Talita will undergo surgery and will be out for an extended time period. It's too bad because I was interested in seeing this Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champ. Bellator announced last night that Gabrielle Holloway will step in to fight Julia. Gabrielle is 24 years old from Rhoadesville, VA and she trains at Zamora Boxing in Culpepper, VA. She first started fighting as an amateur in 2009 and made her pro debut in 2012. She has a 4-1 record and her latest fight was a win over Lacie Jackson at the Jan. 24 RAXX Ultimate Fighting show in Port Allen, LA. That's a short turnaround but not surprising for a fighter coming in at short notice. Prior to this fight, Gabrielle had been off for over a year. She has fought at 135 and 145 lbs. At 5'3", she's a little short for 145lbs especially against someone as tall as Julia. And of course Julia is also an ace kickboxer. So Julia will want to stay on the outside and pepper her with strikes. The question is what will Gabrielle do about that. Not only will this be her national TV debut but I don't think her gym has ever had a fighter appear on TV. So lack of experience could be an issue for her and her camp. But it's an opportunity and sometimes fighters take advantage of short notice opportunities. But it's usually an uphill climb.
