AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Johnny Rodgers

Artist:Johnny Rodgers
Song:Home To Mendocino
Album:Box Of Photographs

Johnny Rodgers is best known for his work in the New York theatre scene. But he has also recorded a few CDs that will remind listeners of 70s singer songwriters. He was born June 5, 1974 in Miami. His grandmother taught him to play piano and then he learned to dance in school. After graduating from Western Michigan University, he met Liza Minnelli at a 2002 Christmas party. He went on tour with her as her pianist and musical director. He was also featured in the Broadway show Liza's at The Palace...! in 2009 and aired on PBS. Rodgers has also appeared with Michael Feinstein, Randy Brecker and Tom Harrell. He formed the band that recorded this CD in 2003 and Box Of Photographs was released on the Broadway performer label PS Classics in 2005. Musicians are Joe Ravo on guitar, Brian Glassman on bass and Danny Mallon on drums. Rodgers says the idea for Back To Mendocino came to him in the shower when he saw that his body wash was made there. He thought it would be a good subject for an idyllic song about returning home. Rodgers has recorded three CDs with this band and producer Richard Barone and has acknowledged Billy Joel as his main influence. He has appeared on some other CDs as a guest artist. He was the musical director for the 2010 for the off-Broadway production Motherhood: The musical. He is currently working on a musical stage show about Liberace. Here's Johnny Rodgers performing Home to Mendocino.
