Jango Song Of The Day-The Soul Children

Artist:The Soul Children
Song:Don't Take My Kindness For Weakness
Album:Chronicle

The Soul Children were an R & B group that had some success mostly on the R & B charts in the early 70s on Stax records. The group was assembled by producers Isaac Hayes & David Porter after Sam & Dave left Stax. John Colbert AKA J. Blackfoot was known around Memphis. He even spent some time in jail. He had released some singles on a smaller label and was lead singer of The Bar-Kays after Otis Redding died in 1967. So Porter was already aware of him. Norman West was a Preacher's Kid from Louisiana and he was a member of William Bell's group The Del-Rios. He also recorded some singles for Smash Records and toured with Jerry Lee Lewis. Anita Louis had done some background singing on Hayes-Porter sessions and Shelbra Bennett happened to walk into Stax on the day they were looking for a singer. The Soul Children recorded four albums from 1968-74 and had several R & B hits including Don't Take My Kindness For Weakness which reached #14 on the R & B Singles chart. Their biggest hit was I'll Be The Other Woman in 1974 which reached #3 on the R & B Singles chart and #36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Soul Children recorded two albums for Epic after Stax went bankrupt. But they weren't successful and J. Blackfoot left for a solo career and had a top ten R & B hit with Taxi in 1984. Norman West has also recorded solo and a version of The Soul Children has reformed occasionally, most recently in 2008. This comp has all their hits. Here's a video for Don't Take My Kindness For Weakness by The Soul Children.
