Jango Song Of The Day-Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson

Artist:Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson
Song:A Lover's Holiday
Album:Lover's Holiday: The Very Best of Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson

Lover's Holiday was one of two top 40 pop hits for the soul duo of Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson in 1968. Both are excellent singers and their music was recorded with Nashville session musicians. So they could be categorized as country soul. Peggy Scott was born Peggy Stoutmeyer June 25, 1948 in Op, AL. Jo Jo Benson was born Joseph Hewell 1948 in Phenix City, AL. Both toured as backup singers, Peggy with Ben E. King and Benson with Chuck Willis. They were put together by producer Huey P. Meaux and Lover's Holiday and Pickin' Wild Mountain Berries were both top 40 pop hits. Meaux sold their contracts to SSS International owner Shelby Singleton and he brought them to Nashville to record. Unfortunately, the duo's subsequent recordings weren't successful and they split up in 1971. They worked very well together so it's too bad they didn't catch on. This Collectables comp is a good intro to their music. Peggy Scott left the music business but returned in the 90s and has had a lot of success in the blues market as Peggy Scott-Adams. Jo Jo Benson also recorded solo in recent years. Here's a video for Lover's Holiday by Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson.
