Artist:100 Proof (Aged In Soul)
Song:Somebody's Been Sleeping
Album:Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed/100 Proof Aged In Soul
Here's a great soul classic that was the only top ten pop hit for 100 Proof (Aged In Soul) in 1970. They only made two albums and you can get all their music on this 2CD comp from Edsel Records. Lead singer Steve Mancha (born Clyde Wilson dec. 25, 1945 in Walhall, SC) had been around the periphery of Motown with little success. Jos Stubbs was a member of The Contours and brother of Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs. And the third member was Eddie Holiday. Wilson started out recording a few singles for legendary producer Harvey Fuqua in 1962. When Fuqua joined Motown, he brought Wilson with him but they never recorded him. In 1965 he signed with another legendary producer Don Davis and Davis suggested the name change to Steve Mancha. He recorded some solo singles and also with The Holidays (led by Edwin Starr) but he wasn't getting anywhere. Mancha finally got his big break when Holland-Dozer-Holland left Motown to start Invictus/Hot Wax Records. They chose him as lead singer of 100 Proof (Aged In Soul). Somebody's Been Sleeping was their second single and reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. The song was written by the team of General Johnson, Angelo Bond & Greg Perry. Johnson was lead singer of Chairmen Of The Board. 100 Proof had some R & B hits but they only recorded two albums. Mancha became lead singer of 8th Day and hit gold with She's Just Another Woman. He left secular music for gospel in the late 70s. Here's a video for Somebody's Sleeping In My Bed by 100 Proof (Aged In Soul).
