Jango Song Of The Day-Rocky Burnette

Artist:Rocky Burnette
Song:Tired Of Toein' The Line
Album:Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The 80s Vol. 3

Tired Of Toein' The Line was a top ten hit for Rocky Burnette in 1980. He was part of the 80s rockabilly revival. Unfortunately bad luck has made him a one hit wonder. He was born June 12, 1953 in Memphis the son of rockabilly legend Johnny Burnette. And as I'm sure you're aware, his dad died in a 1964 boating accident. Rocky and his cousin Billy got record contracts around the same time. Billy went to country and Rocky went to rock. EMI America released Rocky's debut album Son Of Rock 'n' Roll in 1979 and Tired Of Toein' The Line reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980. It predated the success of retro rockabilly acts like The Stray Cats. The problem was that EMI America was having financial problems and they were unable to promote Rocky as they should have. His follow up album Heart Stopper didn't sell. Rocky was moved to Enigma and his album Go Hot Or Go Home! didn't sell either and he was dropped. In the 90s he worked with artists like Rosie Flores, Dwight Twilley and Paul Burlison and continued to write songs for others. His 1996 CD Tear It Up went nowhere when the record company went bankrupt. This Rhino various artists comp from Rhino is part of a series of 80s music comps. Rocky Burnette continued to tour until his death on Sept. 27, 2003 at age 50. Here's the video for Tired Of Toein' The Line by Rocky Burnette.
