The DEEP X grappling tournament was held Jan. 10 at the Taito Riverside Sportcenter in Tokyo. JEWELS sponsored the women's tournaments. The winner of the 55kg division was "super high school girl" Utako Yuasa. That's right. Utako is currently a high school senior. So our friends at Gravity spoke to Utako to find out her future plans. He asked Utako about winning the final with an armbar. She says she has been practicing very dilligently. So what will she do after high school? She says she is planning to go to university and continue grappling there. Chukyo University is probably the top female grappling program in Japan. Olympic wrestling champ Saori Yoshida and JEWELS fighter Mika Nagano are Chukyo products. Her parents have a business so she will help with that too. And she does plan to participate in upcoming grappling tournaments. she says she is interested in pro MMA but her father is against it so it could be difficult. She enjoys grappling pro fighters in these tournaments and said she would like to face V1 and DEEP Lightweight champ MIKU. Don't be surprised if Utako Yuasa makes her MMA debut on a 2010 JEWELS show.
