Caeatano Veloso is one of several musicians along with guys like Milton Nascimento and Gilberto Gil took Bossa Nova to the next level and added political activism for good measure. The Brazilian government didn't look kindly on Veloso & Gil's political statements in their music They were imprisoned and then exiled and moved to London in 1968. When Veloso returned to Brazil in 1972, he became one of Brazil's biggest stars and that hasn't changed over the years. US music critics started touting him in the 80s so he has had more exposure internationally. He signed with Nonesuch Records and Circulado was released in 1991. Arto Lindsey produced the CD and other guests included Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Bebel Gilberto, Marc Ribot, Ryuchi Sakamoto and Nana Vasconceles.
