That's right, folks. It's time once again for the Big Bad Blog video theatre. This is Carina Damm vs Daiana Silva at Bitetti Combat 5 Dec. 12 Sao Paulo, Brazil. Carina is the veteran and I think most fans have heard of her. She's the sister of Rodrigo Damm and trains at his Damm Fight dojo. Her record going into this fight was 12-3. When she went to Japan a few years ago, she was called the Brazilian Barbie Doll. She's on the comeback trail as she was issued a one year drug suspension in May 2008. Daiana is making her MMA debut. She trains at Champion Team. I don't like her flatfooted fighting style. You'll notice she's bigger than Carina but it doesn't help her much. Carina wins the first round easily. Daiana is very tentative and Carina takes her down and Daiana has to escape a heel hook. Daiana comes back in round two and lands some punches. But her flatfooted style means the punches aren't very effective. She doesn't seem to have a ground game either. Daiana comes out aggressively in round three. Carina gets tired of messing with her and takes her down and pounds her until the ref stops the fight. So it's a good win for Carina. She's been outspoken recently about the Brazilian fight business and has threatened to start an all female promotion. I don't think there are enough fighters there for her to do that. She also recently challenged the much ballyhooed Claudia Gadelha. Carina has a K-1 style fight coming up on Jan. 10. Bellator is planning a 125lb women's tournament so I would not be surprised to see her turn up there. And the Japanese fans liked her so I wouldn't be surprised to see her return at some point. Enjoy the video!
