Artist:Solange
Song:I Decided
Album:Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams
Once the inevitable comparisons to her older sister Beyonce were made, it's become clear with her 2008 CD Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams that Solange Knowles doesn't plan to stand in the shadow of her sister. She was born June 24, 1986 in Houston. She started performing as a child and writing songs at age 9. At age 13, she wanted to persue a music career but her parents told her to wait. And it's interesting that they never had her join Destiny's Child though she did tour with them as a dancer. After filling in briefly for an injured Kelly Rowland, her dad Matthew Knowles signed her to a contract with his Music World label. After toying with having Solange replace the departed Farrah Franklin in Destiny's Child, Solange released her debut CD Solo Star in 2003. The album was standard pop tinged R & B and probably wasn't distinctive enough to perform well on the charts. Solange got into acting in the 2004 film Johnson Family Vacation and also returned to songwriting. She has written songs for Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and the gospel girl group Trin-i-tee 5:7. She also gave birth to her son Daniel and eventually divorced her husband. With the current formulas in R & B, it was a good idea for Solange to distinguish herself from the crowd by going for an old school groove on Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams. Solange wrote all the songs with various producers. I Decided was co-written and produced by Pharrell Williams and samples The Supremes' Where Did Our Love Go. The song performed well on the R & B charts and the album reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 200. So now that she's eatablished, maybe people will stop comparing Solange to her sister. Here's the videofor I Decided by Solange.
