Jango Song Of The Day-The Move

Artist:The Move
Song:Fire Brigade
Album:The Best Of The Move

The Move were a very influential late 60s pop group. They were very popular in England but never really made a dent in the US market. The leader of the group was guitarist songwriter Roy Wood (born Nov. 8, 1946 in Birmingham, England). The lead singer was Carl Wayne (born Aug. 18, 1943 in Birmingham). Other members were Trevor Burton on guitar, Ace Kefford on bass and Bev Bevan on drums. They formed in 1966. Wood was in The Idle Race and Wayne had a group called The Vikings. Their manager Tony Secunda brought them to London and had them smash TVs on stage to get attention. They signed with Deram and their first four singles were top ten hits in England. All were written by Wood. Fire Brigade was the fourth single and reached #3 on the British charts. Wood sang lead on it. Kefford left and Burton switched to bass. Then Burton left when he wasn't happy. Eventually Jeff Lynne joined. The Move ontinued but when their 1970 album Shazam stiffed, Wayne left. The Move split up in 1972 and Jeff Lynne started The Electric Light Orchestra. Roy Wood started Wizzard. Both bands were very successful. Carl Wayne had more success as an actor than a singer until his death in 2004. This comp is a good intro to their music. The Move were a very good band so check them out. Here's The Move performing Fire Brigade on Top Of The Pops 1969.
