I featured Ledisi back in the summer before her CD Lost & Found was released. There have been some developments including an excellent video for Alright so I wanted to feature her again. Her name is Ledisi Young and she was born in New Orleans. She sang with the New Orleans Symphony at age 8. Her mom sang in local bands. Her family moved to Oakland, CA and she followed her mom's lead. She performed in a San Francisco cabaret called Beach Blanket Babylon. Ledisi formed a band with songwriter pianist Sundra Manning. They got a lot of acclaim locally but were unable to get a record deal so they released the CD Soulsinger independently in 2000. Her performance on the Earth, Wind & Fire tribute CD got the attention of producer Rex Rideout (Will Downing, Angie Stone) and she signed with Verve. Lost & Found was released in August. Ledisi continues to write a lot of her own songs with Manning & Rideout. The CD is doing very well and Ledisi has been nominated for a Best New Artist & Best R & B Album Grammy Awards. As I said before, Ledisi is a tremendous talent and it looks like the future is now. Here's the video for Alright by Ledisi.
