Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Godley & Creme

Artist:Godley & Creme

Song:Cry

Album:The Very Best Of 10CC

The music careers of Kevin Godley & Lol Creme took some very odd turns when they left the successful pop group 10CC in 1976. They left to experiment with a musical instrument called The Gizmo. The duo was tired of the pop music business but the 1977 concept album Consequences got them nothing but ridicule. Subsequent albums helped a bit but in the early 80s they got into producing and directing music videos. Of course this was a new art form at the time and along with former Monkee Michael Nesmith, Godley & Creme are considered major innovators. They made videos for The Police (Every Breath You Take) & Herbie Hancock (Rock-It) but in 1985 they had a huge hit with the morphing face video for Cry. It's also a beautiful song. There was never an album but Godley & Creme put together an album of 10CC remixes called The History Mix and put Cry on it. So if you're a 10CC fan, you might as well get this 10CC comp that has Cry tacked on at the end. Godley & Creme split up in 1988 but they succeeded in changing the art of music videos. Kevin Godley has continued to direct music videos and reunited with 10CC's Graham Gouldman in 2006. Lol Creme has been part of the group Art Of Noise for several years. Here's the landmark video for Cry by Godley & Creme.
