Corinne Bailey Rae is a young British R & B singer who has made a big splash on this side of the pond. She has a big future in the music business. She was born Feb. 26, 1979 in Leeds, England. She learned to play guitar as a teen and wanted to be a rock star so she formed an all female alt-rock group called Helen. The group signed with Roadrunner Records in 1995 but split before they could record. She worked as a hat check girl in a jazz club while attending the University Of Leeds and started performing in the club. She also met her sax player husband Jason Rae. The key event in her career was meeting producer Mark Hill (Craig David) and he asked her to appear on a record he was recording as The StiX. This got the attention of EMI Records and Corinne was signed. Her debut was released in England in Feb. 2006 and Like A Star was the first single. Corinne wrote the song and it was produced by her primary producer Steve Chrisanthou. The song did well but the follow up single Put Your Records On was even bigger. Her CD was released in North America in June 2006 and reached #4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. Like A Star was released as a single in the US in late 2006 and it's nominated for a 2008 Best Song Grammy. Corinne has also won Image & MOBO Awards. EMI released an expanded 2CD version of Corinne Bailey Rae in Feb. 2007 and released the CD/DVD package Live In London And New York in Apr. 2007.
