Ron Hornaday is the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champ

This is the final week of the 2007 NASCAR season and it all started Friday with the Craftsman Truck Series Ford 200 at Homestead Miami Speedway. Mike Skinner was leading Ron Hornaday by 29 points going into the race and the events of the race show that it's not over until it's over. Skinner qualified in the front row and Hornaday was farther back. So if Skinner runs up to his usual standard, he will likely win the championship. Skinner takes the lead at the start of the race to get five bonus points. Things are going great until Skinner thinks he has a flat right front tire and pits. So he goes a lap down. This doesn't seem to fix the problem so Skinner is coming in to pit again when his left rear wheel comes completely off the truck. It turns out he had a broken wheel hub and by the time it was repaired he was 11 laps down.

That's exactly the break that Ron Hornaday needed to win his third Craftsman Truck Series championship. He stayed out of trouble and got a top ten finish. Johnny Benson won the race. This was the first owner's championship for Kevin Harvick Inc. It was meaningful for Harvick because Ron Hornaday was a mentor to Harvick when Harvick was starting out in NASCAR. Hornaday will continue to drive the #33 for Harvick and Jack Sprague will be his new teammate next year. That should be a potent combination but of course you can expect Mike Skinner & Johnny Benson to continue to drive Toyota for Bill Davis Racing too. Congratulations to Ron Hornaday and here's video footage of what happened to Mike Skinner during the race.
