AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Isaac Delgado

Artist:Isaac Delgado

Song:L-O-V-E

Album:L-O-V-E

Fans of the popular group NG La Banda are going to want to check out the solo albums of that group's lead singer Isaac Delgado. His music is contemporary Cuban jazz with a nod to tradition. The 2010 album L-O-V-E is a tribute to Nat King Cole featuring an appearance by Cole's brother Freddy Cole. Delgado was born Apr. 11, 1962 in Marianao, Habana, Cuba. His mother Lina Ramirez was an actress, singer and dancer in the Teatro Musical de La Habana. Delgado studied violincello at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. But he didn't like the instrument and he concentrated on playing soccer. He got back into music by listening to Ruben Blades and that led to him joining pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba's Grupo Proyecto. He was in several bands before becoming lead singer of NG La Banda in 1988. They were very successful. Delgado left to start his own band in 1991. Delgado sometimes records with Cuban musicians and sometimes he records in New York. His music is probably more jazz than NG La Banda. He has recorded mostly for the Sony distributed RMM Records. This 2010 album L-O-V-E is on Calle 54 Records through Sony Masterworks. Calle 54 is owned by Fernando Treuba, director of the Latin music concert film Calle 54. That's a great film if you haven't seen it. As I said. L-O-V-E is a tribute to Nat King Cole. So all the songs are standards. Freddy Cole is the special guest. This is an all star band including Brian Lynch on trumpet, Ken Peplowski on sax, Conrad Herwig on trombone, John Di Martino on piano, Charles Flores on bass and Dafnis Prieto on drums. This album is available as a digital download. On his 2019 album Lluvia y Fuego, it looks like Delgado has started his own label. The albums was recorded with Cuban musician. But as I said, he alternates recording in Havana and New York. Here's the Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for L-O-V-E by Isaac Delgado. I have resisted using EPKs in the past. But sometimes that is all jazz artists get. And this does give you a good feel for what the album is like.
