Gene Wang of The Washington Post reported a couple of fights for UFC on ESPN 6 Dec. 7 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. One of those fights is Cortney Casey vs Virna Jandiroba at Strawweight. The above Instagram post is from Virna. The story here is that Virna came to the UFC as an undefeated former Invicta Strawweight Champion. She is 31 years old from Bahia, Brazil. But she didn't look very good losing to former UFC Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza. Cortney is still ranked but not as high as Carla. Cortney is 32 years old from Glendale, AZ. She trains with John Crouch at MMA Lab. Her record is 8-7 and 5-5 in the UFC. Obviously she should be an easier fight for Virna. This is the same problem that the UFC has with Ariane Lipsky. Virna had a lot of success in Invicta and they obviously thought she could debut against a ranked fighter. If she loses this fight, she will be 0-2 like Ariane Lipsky. That's not what was expected from either of them. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men.
Welcome to Frank Pozen's Big Bad Blog. A lot of folks have been asking me to update them about my recovery. So I thought I would start a blog primarily to do that but also to talk about other topics of interest including the wrestling business and whatever else I can think of. I plan to update this on a regular basis so check back and leave a comment if you wish.
