AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Cranberries

Artist:The Cranberries
Song:Linger
Album:Icon

The Cranberries were very successful in their native Ireland. Their greatest international success was the 1993 single Linger. It was a top ten hit in the US. Their albums were very consistent sellers in the 90s. They are from Limerick, Ireland. they were called The Cranberry Saw Us when bassist Mike Hogan and guitarist brother Noel Hogan formed the band in 1989 with drummer Fergal Lawler and singer Niall Quinn. After Niall left, Dolores O'Riordan responded to an ad and auditioned by writing lyrics to some of their existing demos. They liked that. That's when she wrote Linger. They released an EP and changed the group name to The Cranberries. Demos resulted in a bidding war won by Island Records. An EP was released that did not go over well. The Smiths producer Stephen Street was brought in to produce the 1993 album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?. At first the album didn't do well. But The Cranberries toured and MTV saw them and started playing their videos. Linger reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified 5XPlatinum. Dolores and Noel Hogan wrote most of the band's songs. They never had another big hit single. But they didn't really need one as their 90s albums sold very well. This budget comp is a good intro to their music. The Cranberries went on hiatus in 2003. Dolores released a solo album in 2007. They reunited in 2009 and the album Roses was released in 2012. I don't think the reunion went well. Dolores and Noel Hogan weren't getting along. And she was having back problems. And then the whole thing ended when Dolores drowned in a hotel bathtub on Jan. 15, 2018. Apparently she was drinking. Hogan announced The Cranberries would not continue. Here's the video for Linger by The Cranberries.
