AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Kristin Korb

Artist:Kristin Korb
Song:Don't Get Around Much Anymore
Album:Why Can't You Behave

Kristin Korb is a bassist and singer. So kind of like Esperanza Spalding. I guess the big difference is Kristin has recorded for her own Double K label since 2001. So she mostly has to promote herself. Esperanza has a big machine behind her. Growing up in Montana, Kristin wanted to be a country singer like her hero Barbara Mandrell. A sixth grade music teacher got her to play bass and listen to some of his jazz records. Kristin studied at Eastern Montana College and University of California, San Diego. Her teacher Bert Turetsky got her to sing while playing. And that's what she has been doing ever since. She made her recording debut after studying with Ray Brown. But she only sang on that album because it was with Brown's trio. Since then Kristin has recorded for her own Double K label. Her recording of the Duke Ellington standard Don't Get Around Much Anymore is from the 2006 CD Why Can't You Behave. Musicians are Andy Martin on trombone, Larry Koonse on guitar, Llew Matthews on piano and Steve Barnes on drums. Kristin was living in Los Angeles. But she married DPA Microphones owner Morten Stove in 2011. She now lives with him in Denmark. Her current trio are both Danish musicians, Magnus Hjorth on piano and Snorre Kirk on drums. They have been on her recent albums. Kristin released a Christmas album last year. She will start a European tour in September. Here's Kristin Korb with Magnus Hjorth and Snorre Kirk performing Don't Get Around Much Anymore at the Gladsaxe Jazz Club in Denmark Apr. 7, 2017.
