Welcome to Frank Pozen's Big Bad Blog. A lot of folks have been asking me to update them about my recovery. So I thought I would start a blog primarily to do that but also to talk about other topics of interest including the wrestling business and whatever else I can think of. I plan to update this on a regular basis so check back and leave a comment if you wish.

Analysis of Invicta FC 27
Today Invicta announced the full card for Invicta FC 27 Jan. 13 in Kansas City. The card is weak even by Invicta standards especially since they have three vacant titles right now. Shouldn't they address that? So the main event is Sarah Kaufman vs Pannie Kianzad in a Bantamweight bout. I guess the thinking is both are popular fighters. And Sarah used to be a Strikeforce champ. That was a long time ago. Sarah's UFC run was mediocre at best and that's why her contract wasn't renewed. I think the field has caught up to her and her fighting skills have stagnated. She might do OK in Invicta but I don't think she's a main event fighter anymore. Pannie is another popular fighter from Denmark. Her record is 8-2 but she's 1-2 in Invicta. So the higher competition level seems to be a problem for her. It's just not a main event fight based on recent results. The co-main event is a Flyweight bout with Vanessa Porto vs Mariana Morais. Vanessa is a veteran. She's a decent but not great fighter. She won her last Invicta fight a couple of weeks ago. I guess I think someone else should get a chance. Mariana trains at PRVT in Brazil. Her record is 12-5. The last time we saw her in Invicta she lost to Roxanne Modafferi in 2015. And recently she lost a title match in KSW in Poland. So I don't know what makes them think she should be this high up on the card. It looks like they are trying to set Vanessa up for another title shot. In a Strawweight bout, Sharon Jacobson will face Ashley Nichols. Sharon is 34 years old from Colorado Springs. Her record is 4-2 and 2-1 in Invicta. She should be on the prelims. Ashley is 31 years old from Toronto. Her record is 3-1. She has mostly fought for TKO in Montreal. This is her Invicta debut. This is a prelim fight. In an Atomweight bout, Ashley Cummings will face Stephanie Alba. Ashley is popular. She is a St. Louis police officer. It doesn't mean she's a good fighter. Her record is 5-4. With the fighters Invicta doesn't bring back, why do they bring her back? Stephanie is 35 years old from Houston. Her record is 3-1-1NC. She has mostly fought for Combate Americas. Not a lot of experience for her age. This is not a main card fight. They announced that Brogan Walker will face an opponent TBA. Brogan is 4-0 for PXC in Guam. She is a Flyweight. In a Welterweight bout, Felicia Spencer will face Akeela Al-Hameed. Felicia is from Montreal but she trains in Orlando. Her record is 3-0. I like what I have seen from her so far. Akeela is from Minnesota. She is making her pro debut. She has a 4-0 amateur record. In a Strawweight bout, Mallory Martin will face Tiffany Masters. I don't like either of them. In an Atomweight bout, Looma Lookboonmee will face Melissa Wang. Both are debuting in Invicta. Looma is from Thailand and is making her pro debut. Melissa is from San Jose. She trains at AKA. Her record is 1-0. And in a Strawweight bout, Jade Ripley will face Helen Peralta. Both are making their pro debuts. Jade is 30 years old from St. Joseph's, MO. She has a 6-0 amateur record. Helen is 29 years old from Iowa. she has a 9-1 amateur record. So basically this is a card full of prelim matches. The main card should be stronger.
