AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Carpenters

Artist:Carpenters
Song:Home For The Holidays
Album:Christmas Portrait

Of course the Carpenters were one of the most successful groups of the 70s. But by the late 70s, Richard and Karen Carpenter were both having health problems that would force them to go on hiatus. Christmas Portrait was their final album before the hiatus. They would return but then Karen died. Christmas Portrait was not only an album but a TV special that still airs on PBS stations. they had success with one off Christmas singles like Merry Christmas Darling. So this time Richard wanted to record a full blown Christmas album. They recorded enough material for two Christmas albums. A second album An Old-Fashioned Christmas was released in 1984. The current CD release seems to be a combination of both albums. Richard produced the albums and wrote most of the arrangements with Peter Knight who previously worked with The Moody Blues. Home For The Holidays was written by Al Stillman and Robert Allen. Perry Como had a hit with it in 1954. I don't think it was on the original album but the 1984 sequel. The album did very well. But Richard went into rehab soon after for drug addiction. Karen was supposed to record a solo album. But she got sick with the anorexia that would kill her. They returned with the 1981 album Made in America but Karen died in 1983. Richard produced An Old-Fashioned Christmas as a tribute to Karen. Here's a video for Home For The Holidays by the Carpenters.
