Song:4 Real Christmas
Album:A Gospel Greats Christmas
I always say that if you want a great Christmas album you should get one by a gospel artist because they sing about God all year. Most gospel fans should be familiar with Commissioned. They were very popular in the 80s and 90s. And I think many fans know that Fred Hammond and Marvin Sapp started out as members of Commissioned. They never recorded a Christmas album. But they did record a couple of Christmas songs for the 1996 CD The Real Meaning Of Christmas. Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker and Colorado Mass Choir also appear on this album. By 1996, Hammond left Commissioned to start Radical For Christ. He was replaced by Montrell Darrett who had been in John P. Kee's choir. Marvin Sapp was still in Commissioned along with Karl Reid and Mitchell Jones. This is the group that recorded the 1996 album Irreplaceable Love. And they also recorded two Christmas songs for The Real Meaning Of Christmas. Darrett wrote 4 Real Christmas. He left Commissioned soon after and so did Sapp. Darrett recorded a solo album in 1999 and since then he has done some writing and producing. The Real Meaning Of Christmas is out of print. But you can get 4 Real Christmas on this 2003 budget CD released as part of Verity's Gospel Greats series. Here's a video for 4 Real Christmas by Commissioned.
