RENA, Jessica Penne |
Welcome again to the Twilight Zone of the fight business known as SHOOT BOXING. This is the place where no one including refs and officials can figure out the rules. At today's show at Korakuen Hall, SHOOT BOXING sex object RENA prepared for her upcoming showdown with teen kickboxing champ Erika Kamimura with a match against US MMA fighter Jessica Penne. So the match was very close and at the end of three rounds, it was ruled a majority draw. When that happens in SHOOT BOXING, they go to extra rounds and each round is scored individually. There are a couple of other Japanese companies who do this overtime stuff, most notably Sengoku. I don't like it especially with hybrid crap like SHOOT BOXING which seems a little fishy anyway. A draw is a draw. I don't need overtime from shady promoters. RENA seemed to win the fourth round as Jessica gassed. But it was scored a split draw. Then in the fifth round, Jessica got a crucial point for a takedown and got the win. The fan reaction was RENA got robbed...and it certainly looks like she was robbed by incompetent judges. The first thing she did was go over to talk to SHOOT BOXING owner Takeshi Caesar. I wonder what she said to him. She was not happy. So people tell me this is an upset and a big win for Jessica. Well, it's not an MMA fight so it doesn't go on her record. And when a fighter wins because of questionable judging, it is frequently not perceived as a win. Look, Jessica got a free trip to Japan. I hope she has fun but SHOOT BOXING is meaningless hybrid crap. And I don't think it's an upset. RENA is top dog at SHOOT BOXING because she's hot. But she's at best mediocre in the ring. She has even missed weight occasionally. And when she lost her SHOOT BOXING title to Ai Takahashi in May, she seriously considered retirement and Caesar talked her out of it. I don't think she's that good. So now she will face teen kickboxing phenom Erika Kamimura on the Nov. 23 RISE show which I think is an outdoor show at Tokyo City Hall. ERIKA just won the S-Girls Cup 2011 and she has a 22-1 kickboxing record. She's a cute girl but she's not getting by on her looks. This girl has serious kickboxing skills. RENA and Erika faced each other last spring in an exhibition match. It was not a real match but Erika knocked RENA down and fans have been drooling for a real showdown. So how is Erika preparing for this? She will challenge British kickboxer Denise Mellor for her WBC Muay Thai Light Flyweight Kickboxing Championship Oct. 2 at Korakuen Hall. That seems like a big match to me. Hasn't she got a bunch of belts already? Obviously RENA vs Erika is money but I don't see Erika having any problems with RENA. Almost forgot to mention that RENA's 16 year old sister MIO had her second match today and won by UD over Mariko Myochi.
