Artist:Colbie Caillat
Song:Bubbly
Album:Coco: Deluxe Edition
Remember MySpace? Well, Colbie Caillat used MySpace to get a record contract and become a star. Bubbly was her breakthrough hit. She was born May 28, 1985 in Newbury Park, CA the daughter of Fleetwood Mac producer and audio engineer Ken Caillat. So obviously she grew up in the recording studio. She met British DJ Mikal Blue and he helped her record her first song. She was rejected twice at American Idol auditions. You might say now how could they turn her down. But Colbie has admitted her auditions were terrible. In fact, she sang Bubbly at the second audition. So she, Blue and songwriting partner Jason Reeves recorded Bubbly and posted it on MySpace. She was MySpace's number one unsigned artist for four months and Bubbly generated 14 million plays. Obviously she didn't remain unsigned for long. She released her 2007 debut CD Coco on Universal Republic. It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 200 and went 2XPlatinum. Bubbly reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Colbie wrote the song with Reeves and her dad produced along with Blue. The song is very appealing and it doesn't hurt that Colbie is awfully cute. Coco is available in a Deluxe Edition with a bonus disc of songs. For her second CD Breakthrough, Colbie was having trouble writing. So Reeves brought in Kara DioGuardi to help and she co-wrote several songs on the album. Kara got Reeves his Warner Bros. record deal. That album topped the Billboard Hot 200 and her latest CD All Of You also made the top ten. So that just shows the kind of power MySpace used to have. Here's the video for Bubbly by Colbie Caillat.
