AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship

Artist:Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship
Song:Joy To The World
Album:Song of Simeon: A Christmas Journey

Tenor sax player Will Scruggs is a big part of the Atlanta jazz scene. He works as a sideman but he also leads his own band and records on his own label. This Christmas CD was released in 2011. Scruggs was born in Atlanta and he learned to play sax as a child. He studied at Emory University and planned to become a music teacher. He was in the band Cadillac Jones. They recorded a couple of albums and Scruggs made enough contacts in music that he thought he could get a lot of studio work. He also formed Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship in 2005. The Band has recorded three albums. This Christmas CD Song Of Simeon is their most recent release. Other members are Brian Hogans on alto sax, Marlon Patton on drums and Zach Pride on bass. Scruggs' highest profile gig was when he recorded and toured with Natalie Cole when she was recording for Verve. When Scruggs isn't recording or touring, he leads the house band at Ray's Killer Creek in Alpharetta, GA. This Christmas CD is expensive but worth checking out. Here's a video for Joy To The World by Will Scruggs Jazz Fellowship.
