AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Pam Tillis

Artist:Pam Tillis
Song:Maybe It Was Memphis
Album:RCA Country Legends

Pam Tillis is probably best known as the daughter of country music legend Mel Tillis. But she had success as a recording artist in the 90s with songs like Maybe It Was Memphis. She was born July 24, 1957 in Plant City, FL and grew up in Nashville. She sang as a child. She was injured in a car accident at age 16 and required facial reconstruction surgery. She had two groups while in college but dropped out of school in 1976 to work at her father's publishing company. One of Pam's songs The Other Side Of the Morning was a hit for Barbara Fairchild. She moved briefly to Los Angeles and returned to Nashville in 1979. Pam signed with Warner Bros. in 1981 and they just couldn't seem to sell her. She released several singles but only one album in 1983, Above and Beyond the Doll of Cutey. She left Warners and signed with Arista in 1989. Her 1991 Arista debut album Put Yourself in My Place was certified Gold. And it had three top ten hits including Maybe It Was Memphis which reached #3 on the country singles chart. Pam had recorded the song at Warners but it was never released. The song was written by Michael Anderson who recorded for A&M in the 80s and then turned to Contemporary Christian Music. The song got a big boost when Lauren Alaina performed it on the 2011 season of American Idol and then Danielle Bradbery performed it on the 2013 season of The Voice. Pam Tillis had several top ten country hits. But her only number one hit was Mi Vida Loca in 1994. Not the Ricky Martin hit. Pam wrote the song. You can get all her hits on this comp. Pam's singing career faded in the late 90s and she got into acting and appeared on some TV dramas. She moved to Epic in 2002 and now records on her own label. She released a CD with Lorrie Morgan last year. Pam Tillis is currently on tour. Here's the video for Maybe It Was Memphis by Pam Tillis.
