Album:From There To Here: Greatest Hits
Amazed was the biggest hit for the country group Lonestar in 1999. Not only did it top the country chart but it crossed over to pop and topped the Billboard Hot 100. They were called Texassee when first formed in 1992 because all the members were Texas natives living in Nashville. They met at the Opryland USA theme park. Richie McDonald was lead singer and rhythm guitarist, John Rich was bassist and lead singer, Michael Britt was lead guitarist, Randy "Keech" Rainwater played drums and Dean Sams played keyboards. Britt and Rainwater were in the group Canyon who had a top 40 country hit with Hot Nights in 1989. The band name was changed to Lonestar and they signed with BNA Records in 1995. Their first single Tequila Talkin' was a top ten country hit. The next single No News was their first number one country hit. With their second album Crazy Nights, Rich seemed to take control of Lonestar's lead vocals and McDonald was pushed to the background. Lonestar fired Rich in 1998 and he went on to the successful duo Big & Rich. McDonald took over as lead singer on the 1999 album Lonely Grill. They also brought in session guitarist and Contemporary Christian musician Dann Huff to produce. The single Amazed topped the Country Singles chart and the Billboard Hot 100, the first song to do that since Islands In The Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton in 1983. The song was written by the husband wife team of Chris Lindsey and Aimee Mayo along with Marv Green. So now Lonestar is more of a pop group. They continued to have success and have had nine number one country hits. You can get them all on this budget CD. Lonestar started to fade and BNA dropped them after the 2007 CD Mountains sold poorly. Then Richie McDonald left to go solo. He was replaced by Cody Collins of the group McAlyster. They released a 2008 album with Collins. Then he left and McDonald returned. Lonestar's latest CD Life As We Know It was released June 2013. They are currently touring. I don't see Lonestar returning to the top of the country charts again. But I'm sure they are still a good concert draw. Here's the video for Amazed by Lonestar.
