AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Blue Swede

Artist:Blue Swede
Song:Hooked On A Feeling
Album:The Golden Classics of Blue Swede

Though Blue Swede is perceived as a one hit wonder, they actually had two top ten hits in 1974. Their cover of the 1968 BJ Thomas hit Hooked On A Feeling topped the charts in 1974. The lead singer of Blue Swede was Bjorn Skifs. He is a veteran of the Swedish music scene. He led the band Slam Creepers from 1962 to 1969. He formed Blablus in 1972 and Capitol Records changed it to Blue Swede so they could sell the band in North America. Hooked On A Feeling topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. Hooked On A Feeling was written by Scepter Records house songwriter Mark James and it was a top ten hit for BJ Thomas in 1968. James' other big hits are Suspicious Minds for Elvis Presley and Always On My Mind first recorded by Presley and later a hit for Willie Nelson. Hooked On A Feeling was recorded by British singer Jonathan King in 1971. Most fans will recall his big hit Everyone's Gone To The Moon. King had a British top 30 with Hooked On A Feeling which included the ooga chuka chant that is also on Blue Swede's recording. King says the chant was influenced by the chant on the 1959 Johnny Preston classic Running Bear. Then Blue Swede had a top ten hit with a cover of The Association hit Never My Love. Both hits are on this Collactables comp. Blue Swede only recorded two albums and Skifs returned to his solo career in Sweden in 1976. And he still records today. The Blue Swede recording of Hooked On A Feeling got a big boost when Quentin Tarantino used it in his 1992 film Reservoir Dogs. And the recording was also used in the Dancing Baby stuff on the hit TV show Ally McBeal. Here's Blue Swede performing Hooked On A Feeling on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert 1974.
