AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Andre Previn, Kathleen Battle and Wynton Marsalis

Artist:Andre Previn, Kathleen Battle and Wynton Marsalis
Song:The Christmas Song
Album:A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert

If you're looking for a Christmas CD with jazz and classical elements, this one might fit the bill. A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert aired on PBS Great Performances in 1991. The orchestra is led by pianist Andre Previn. Previn has done so many things in his career that I wouldn't be able to cover it in one post. He was born in Germany but but moved to Los Angeles as a child. He started out as a jazz pianist in the 50s but soon started arranging and conducting for TV and film and he has also conducted classical music. For this concert, he brought in trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his band to add a jazz element. He also brought in opera singers Kathleen Battle and Frederica von Stade. Kathleen is very versatile and has worked with jazz musicians in the past. Kathleen is from Ohio. Frederica is from New Jersey and has been performing since the 70s. Actress Nancy Allen does some spoken word and the show features the Orchestra of St. Lukes and the American BoyChoir. Kathleen does a stellar job on the Mel Torme classic A Christmas Song. The show aired on PBS in 1991 and an edited version of the show was released on CD. It is available as a budget CD. PBS has not aired this show in recent years. But it is available on DVD. It might go well with some egg nog and your significant other. Here's Kathleen Battle with Andre Previn and Wynton Marsalis performing A Christmas Song and Frederica von Stade performing Have Yourself A Merry Christmas from the 1991 PBS show A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert. This video is not on Youtube.
