Artist:The Gaslight Anthem
Song:American Slang
Album:American Slang
With their latest CD American Slang, The Gaslight Anthem is on the verge of breaking through to mainstream audiences. The big question is will they move to a major label. The lead singer and main songwriter of The Gaslight Anthem is Brian Fallon. He was born Jan. 28, 1980 in Red Bank, NJ. His mom was in the late 60s group The Group Folk Singers. Fallon has been trying to build a music career since 1995. His band Surrogate McKenzie never got past the demo stage and Amping Copper released one CD in 2001. When The Charming Man looked like it was going nowhere in 2005, he formed The Gaslight Anthem with Alex Rosamilia on guitar, Alex Levine on bass and Benny Horowitz on drums. Their 2007 EP Sink Or Swim earned them a contract with Los Angeles based indie label SideOneDummy and they assigned Ted Hutt of the group Flogging Molly to produce them. Their 2008 debut CD The '59 Sound got them a lot of critical acclaim and of course constant touring always helps. Their big break came when they opened for Bruce Springsteen on his 2009 European tour. And their big moment came at the Glastonbury Music Festival June 27, 2009 when Springsteen joined them on stage for one song. That kind of endorsement is a big deal. The Gaslight Anthem really took off and their 2010 CD American Slang reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 200. Fallon acknowledges The Replacements as his main influence but also Springsteen because of the Jersey connection. Fallon is currently writing songs for the next Gaslight Anthem CD and he has a side project The Horrible Crowes that will be out this year. Will they stay with SideOneDummy or move to a major? If you've never heard of The Gaslight Anthem, here's your chance to check them out. Here's the video for American Slang by The Gaslight Anthem.
