DNCE is the group formed by Joe Jonas after The Jonas Brothers split up. Cake By The Ocean was a top ten hit and their debut album was certified Gold. After The Jonas Brothers split up in 2013, Joe Jonas was unsure if he wanted to record a solo album or start a new band. Jonas released a solo album in 2011. At the time he was living with drummer Jack Lawless who toured with The Jonas Brothers. He started writing songs with Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons. He asked guitarist JinJoo Lee if she wanted to join a new band. She was born in Korea but she has toured with all kinds of acts. Jonas met her in 2009 when she was touring with Jordin Sparks. Tranter suggested Semi Precious Weapons bassist Cole Whittle and DNCE was born. The band was named after one of the songs on the album. Cake By The Ocean was released on the EP Swaay in 2015. The song reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was produced by the Swedish duo Mattman & Robin who have also worked with Selena Gomez and Imagine Dragons. DNCE performed the song on several TV shows. I guess the problem was the album DNCE wasn't released until Nov. 2016. That's too much of a time lag for my liking. DNCE is on tour right now but I'm sure they will record new music after they finish. Here's the video for Cake By The Ocean by DNCE.
